Install shingles as normal up to the base of the plumbing vent. Then fold the flashing over the peak and cover the cut ends with self stick underlayment. Firmly push the flashing back down into place. This process is much easier with two people. Start by installing self stick underlayment on the decking. Step flashings are to be installed one per course.

Place the flashing or boot onto the plumbing vent so the base is resting on shingles. The roof deck flange of step flashings are to be fastened to the surface of each shingle in a position whereby the next course of shingles will cover up hide the flashing from view. Roof valleys channel a lot of water so they need extra protection. That flashing directs the water onto the shingle and the water drains down the roof.

To get this done just use any 2x4s convert them into long wedges and nail to the joists. When you reach the plumbing vent allow the shingles to overlap the top of the flashing. Install the next course of shingles. Great for sheltering your farm equipment machinery belongings or even a riding arena.

Cut the flashing back to the peak along each crease. Because a flat roof isn t actually flat because of the slight incline that ensures an optimal water runoff you must observe this.
